A Darlington sex offender who authorities say possessed several million images of child pornography — including hundreds of nude photographs of a teenage girl he befriended on Facebook — is being held on $1 million bail.

Timmy J. Reichling, 46, was charged Tuesday in Lafayette County Circuit Court with three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, three counts of being a registered sex offender who intentionally photographed a minor without consent and five counts of being in possession of child pornography.

Darlington Police Chief Jason King said more charges are expected.

King said the district attorney asked for a high amount of bail because Reichling poses a threat to victims, some of whom live in Darlington.

Reichling was arrested Thursday morning after searches of two residences were conducted by Darlington police, Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.

According to a criminal complaint, several million images of child pornography were found on computer hard drives, thumb drives, videos and other storage devices, including several hundred photographs of the same Darlington teenager.

The complaint alleges that in July 2010, Reichling, posing as a teen boy named Nathan Solman, began a relationship on Facebook with the then-13-year-old girl, who began sending him naked pictures of herself from her cellphone. The girl told authorities that the relationship began to deteriorate in 2011 after Reichling started threatening to send her pictures to her family and friends if she did not send him more.

The girl told authorities that Reichling would leave a camera in her yard and tell her what kind of images he wanted her to record, including a video of her having sex with her boyfriend, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, on several occasions, Reichling texted the girl and told her he could see her when she was outdoors with friends. On one occasion, Reichling came near her back yard, and she realized he was not who she thought he was. He fled when the girl’s father approached.

Reichling used multiple Facebook accounts and other identities, including Erich Riech and Adrian Connor, the complaint states.

“We have reason to believe there are other possible juvenile victims who have yet to be identified, both in Wisconsin and out of state,” said Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Commander Jennifer Price.

Anyone who might have information or who may be a victim can contact DCI at 608-266-1671 or Darlington police at 608-776-4981.

A preliminary hearing for Reichling is scheduled for Sept. 3.

The Sex Offender Registry shows Reichling was convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 1993 and was released from prison in 2008.
